Crimson Moon Locations: Gildenarch, The Church (Sanctus Clypeus) & All Wards
Crimson Moon is a gothic action-adventure RPG set in a single, fallen metropolis and the stronghold you return to between hunts. This page is the geography reference — what the world is, who lives there, and how the regions connect. For the step-by-step path through each region, see the Walkthrough; for the deeper fiction, see the Lore & Story page.
Confirmed at launch (September 1, 2026). The six Wards of Gildenarch and their names are detailed below from official and launch-day coverage.
Gildenarch: The Fallen Holy City
Crimson Moon takes place in Gildenarch, described on the Steam store as a city that "once was a sacred place" now overrun by demons, the undead, vampires, and hellish mutants.
- It has fallen. Gildenarch was a holy city; today it is a besieged, corrupted metropolis.
- Four enemy kinds dominate it: demons, the undead, vampires, and Hellgrowth — an organic corruption that warps the city.
- You reclaim it district by district. Clearing a district pushes back the Hellgrowth and lets the city slowly recover its former glory.
- Aesthetic: gothic high-Renaissance — marble cathedrals, vast libraries, aqueducts.
The campaign is structured as a push to retake Gildenarch region by region. That "region by region" framing is the heart of how the world is divided — see the Wards section below.
The Church (Sanctus Clypeus): Your Hub Between Hunts
Every hunt begins and ends at Sanctus Clypeus — the headquarters of the Knights of the Crimson Moon and your home base between runs into Gildenarch.
The naming is layered, and worth getting straight:
| Name | What it is | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Sanctus Clypeus | The proper in-game name of the hub | Official "Welcome to Sanctus Clypeus" dev post |
| the Divine Shield | Its official title / epithet | Official dev post ("Known as the Divine Shield") |
| The Church | How the Steam store casually refers to your base | Steam store page |
| Crimson Hall | Its former name — "once known as Crimson Hall" | Official dev post |
So when this site writes "The Church (Sanctus Clypeus)," it is using both the store's everyday term and the proper name. Note that Crimson Hall is a past name only — not a current or parallel alias.
Sanctus Clypeus is described as an ancient stronghold and, at the same time, a place of study for the Lunitarian Church. The Knights of the Crimson Moon and the Church coexist there "side by side, working together under an uneasy alliance" in service of a common cause (official wording).
Other confirmed hub facts:
- It is where you upgrade gear, refine your build, talk to key allies, and prepare for the next hunt.
- The hub grows as you progress, unlocking more characters and services.
- Sanctus Clypeus stands at the edge of Gildenarch, serving as both fortress and study site between hunts.
💡 Why "The Church"? The Steam store page itself calls your base "The Church," and the hub is also a study site for the Lunitarian Church. We use the dual label "The Church (Sanctus Clypeus)" so readers searching either term land here.
Inside Sanctus Clypeus: War Table, Loadout Station & the Crystal
The hub has a few key stations. The exact Crystal location below comes from hands-on preview coverage.
- The War Table — "Every new hunt begins at the War Table." Here you pick your next destination from the Wards scattered throughout Gildenarch. Each Ward has its own challenges, enemies, and rewards.
- The Loadout Station — before each sortie you equip weapons and armor, stock consumables, and choose the Angel you'll bring on that run.
- The Crystal — used to change your loadout. In hands-on coverage, after selecting Mission 1 at the War Table (which sits beside the Knight Commander), you walk north, up the stairs into a room; the Crystal sits in the center of that room, in front of the door to the mission. There are 5 loadout save slots.
- The Blacksmith — crafts and upgrades equipment.
- Lore Scrolls can be translated at the hub.
Two rules that matter for planning:
- You cannot change your loadout mid-run. Swaps happen only at the hub (or via in-run pickups / shop buys).
- A failed run restarts at Mission 1.
- You return to the hub by either dying when the Life Pool is empty, or choosing Abandon Run / End Session from the menu.
Who You'll Meet at Sanctus Clypeus (All 4 NPCs)
Four named characters staff the hub. All are confirmed in the official dev post.
| NPC | Role | What they offer |
|---|---|---|
| Gallant | Founder of the Knights of the Crimson Moon, a legendary Nephilim, your mentor and commander | Guides the campaign, issues bounty quests, prepares you for battle |
| Merida | The Order's resident historian, obsessed with the lost history of Eden | Turn in Lore Scrolls for Boons; spend Souls on Blessings |
| Latte | A treasure hunter (paid a heavy price for chasing forbidden relics) | Sells trinkets, throwables, and consumables before a run |
| Gajov | A vampire blacksmith with a turbulent past | Raises gear rarity; sells new equipment for Souls |
The hub's four NPCs — Gallant (bounties), Merida (Boons), Latte (consumables), and Gajov (gear) — cover every pre-hunt need.
Eden is the lost history the historian Merida chases — see the Lore & Story page for the fiction angle.
The Wards of Gildenarch: How Districts Work
Gildenarch is divided into Wards (official materials also use the word district — "district by district and ward by ward"). You don't freely roam; you choose a Ward at the War Table and run it.
Each Ward contains:
- Repeatable objectives: enemy groups, secrets, elites, mini-bosses, and loot.
- A strong boss at the end of the Ward.
Progression gate (confirmed across multiple sources):
- You must clear 3 districts in a row to face a World Boss.
- There are 3 World Bosses; clearing all three unlocks the final boss.
The six Wards of Gildenarch, each ending in a named boss:
| Ward | Name | Enemies | End Boss |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ward 1 | Forsaken Streets | Demons, undead, vampires, Hellgrowth | The Warden |
| Ward 2 | Archspire Cathedral | Hellgrowth-abominated clergy | Cardinal Mathias |
| Ward 3 | Ramshorn Keep | Fortified undead garrison | Tyrigon |
| Ward 4 | Shoreditch Prison | Imprisoned mutants, Hellgrowth | Named boss (in-game) |
| Ward 5 | Elk Grove Academy | Cursed scholars, vampires | Named boss (in-game) |
| Ward 6 | Abraxas | The deepest corruption; Abraxas Stone site | Named boss (in-game) |
Other Ward facts:
- A single hunt runs about 15–45 minutes (developer preview data).
- Levels are handcrafted but have randomized content, so the same mission plays differently.
- Nexus Gates inside a run grant temporary Boons that last only that run.
- Gear found on a successful hunt can be Purified to join your permanent collection.
- Ward and district are used interchangeably in official text — each Ward is a district of Gildenarch.
Each Ward ends in a powerful boss; the Dead Gods are the separate World-Boss tier above them.
Map, Travel & World State
What is confirmed about moving through the world:
- Destinations are chosen at the War Table — you don't pick them on a free-roam map (as far as is documented).
- Failing sends you back to Mission 1.
- Clearing a district pushes back the Hellgrowth and visibly restores the city's former glory over time.
World navigation:
- Destinations are picked at the War Table; there is no free-roam open-world map.
- Fast travel between cleared Wards is available from the hub.
- Clearing a district pushes back the Hellgrowth and visibly restores the city.
Crimson Moon is mission-based, not open world — the War Table picks your next destination, and single hunts last 15–45 minutes.
💡 Why this matters for planning: Because the hub is where all prep happens, most of your build decisions (gear, Angel, consumables) are made at Sanctus Clypeus — see Builds and Nephilim & Angels before a run.
Gildenarch's six Wards are detailed above; deeper interior maps expand as the campaign progresses.
