Crimson Moon Weapons

Weapon types, scaling and Weapon Arts, and which ones fit your build.

Can You Dual-Wield in Crimson Moon?

No. Crimson Moon does not support dual-wielding. Your weapon slot is either one one-handed weapon + a shield or one two-handed weapon — there is no two-weapon setup. This is fixed by the 9-slot loadout, so "dual swords" or "sword + off-hand dagger" is not an option.

Weapons Overview

Crimson Moon has 30+ weapon types (single- and two-handed), and every weapon carries its own Weapon Art — a unique active ability. You collect, upgrade and purify weapons; purified gear becomes a permanent part of your collection.

Crimson Moon has 30+ weapon types (single- and two-handed). Hands-on previews also reference 80+ unique weapons and pieces of armor combined, so the 30+ figure counts weapon types only, not armor. Every weapon's full stat line ships in-game.

One-Handed + Shield vs Two-Handed

SetupProsConsGood for
One-handed + shieldDefense, parry, safe learningLower raw reach/impactBeginners, co-op tanks (Vanguard)
Two-handedReach, impact, crowd controlNo shield, more commitmentAggressive AoE / burst play

The shield isn't just damage reduction — it enables the counter playstyle that makes the early game forgiving. That is why the sword-and-board setup is the recommended starter.

What Are Weapon Arts?

Each weapon has its own Weapon Art with its own cooldown. Swapping your weapon effectively swaps your skill kit — so you pick a weapon for its Art as much as its damage. The official news puts it plainly: many weapons "have access to powerful Weapon Arts, each with its own cooldown."

Combat is built around commitment: attacks have weight, dodges cost a resource, and heavy weapons have long animations you must read. Your Weapon Art is the punctuation of that rhythm.

Weapon Types & How They Play

Launch coverage ranks weapon archetypes in a tier list:

ArchetypeTier (one source)Role
Spear / PolearmSSafe reach, spacing
GreatswordSStagger, crowd control
Sword & ShieldAStable, beginner- and co-op-friendly
RapierAPrecision, parry-friendly
Axe / HalberdBStrong single-target, riskier
Warhammer / Heavy MalletBBreak poise, control

Weapons are ranked by launch coverage; the meta will shift as players optimize — pick what fits your Angel and build, not just the letter. Confirmed standouts include the Nephilim Greatblade (S) and Angelic Twinblades (S), with the Demonic Scythe and Blood-Iron Gauntlets rated A.

Named Weapon Arts (Verified Examples)

These Weapon Art names appear across multiple guides and the official framing:

WeaponExample Weapon Arts
Hammer + shieldDivine Retaliation, Shield Slam
Fire two-handerCleaving Flame, Pillar of Ashes
Dagger / fast bladeShadow Step, Pierce the Veil
Great malletForce Palm, Focus Repulsion
Sword & boardShield Fortress, Radiant Cleave
GreatswordBreaker Spin, Crimson Siphon

Note the naming distinction: "Sword & Shield" here is a weapon type, not the Vanguard build — a guide may call a sword-and-board loadout "Divine Vanguard," but that is a build label layered on top of the weapon type.

Weapon Rarity & Upgrading

Weapons come in Common / Rare / Epic / Legendary rarity. You can upgrade them (the blacksmith Gajov handles hub-side upgrades), and once you purify a found weapon it joins your permanent collection at the Loadout Station. Rarity caps scale with difficulty tier — including Legendary — so climbing difficulty is also how you unlock the strongest gear.

The Axe of the Gods (a guitar-shaped axe) is a Deluxe Edition bonus weapon — a special item, not a standard weapon type.

How to Pick a Weapon for Your Build

Pair the weapon with your archetype from the Best Builds page:

  • Vanguard (tank): one-handed weapon + tower shield — max stability.
  • Searing Seraph (fire AoE): a two-handed greatsword or greataxe for burning, area damage.
  • Phantom Executioner (crit burst): daggers or a fast sword for speed and crits.

Pick the weapon whose Weapon Art matches how you want to fight, then shape the rest of the build around it.
